History of the Transactions

Transactions of the Scientific Work of the VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava have been published since 1949, initially as a non-periodical publication called Transactions of the Mining University, ISSN 0474-8468. Since 1955 the Transactions has been annually published under the title Collection of Scientific Works and since 1966 it is published based on Transactions of Scientific Papers in a separate basic series, with the respective interests of the faculties - a Series of Mining and Geology, Metallurgy and Mechanical Engineering and with the emergence of other faculties another series were added - Economics, Civil Engineering, etc. The original Mechanical Engineering Series (ISSN 0862-2485), continued since 1968 as Mechanical Engineering (ISSN 0322-9335), when the name of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering changed into the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and since 1977 it was issued as the Series of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (ISSN 0862 - 2477) and finally, after the division into separate faculties - the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science it has been published since 1992 once again as the Series of Mechanical Engineering with the current ISSN 1210-0471. Bibliographic records of articles from all series of Transactions of the Scientific Works of VSB-TUO, including scanned full texts (1949-1950, 1955-till present) are available at the Central Library, VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, and also through DSpace web application (http://dspace.vsb.cz/handle/10084/14242). Access to full texts through the application DSpace are only for users of VSB-TUO based on personal authentication. The Series of Mechanical Engineering was published periodically once a year, and since 2005 it has been published in two or more issues each year (as needed).

All contributions since 2007 have been reviewed by at least one reviewer from the field; the reviewer was mostly an associate professor or professor of the corresponding field at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. To improve the objectivity and the professional level of the Transactions the contributions since 2008 have been reviewed by two independent reviewers who are not employees of VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, and also must be from another department (institution), than the author is, respectively, the co-authors of the contribution are.
